Kim Consulting is pleased to share that one of our students has been admitted to the Interdisciplinary Master of Science in Data Science program at the University of Washington.

The program is highly selective. For this admission cycle, the university received over 700 applications for approximately 65 available seats, resulting in an acceptance rate of roughly 9%.

The UW Interdisciplinary MSDS program is widely recognized for its strong integration of computer science, statistics, and applied data science, as well as its close connections to the technology industry in Seattle. The program benefits from its proximity to major technology companies such as Amazon and Microsoft, providing students with valuable networking and career opportunities.

After receiving the admission decision, the student raised an interesting question that many applicants face when they are fortunate enough to have multiple strong options:

University of Washington or Columbia University?

Both institutions offer outstanding academic environments. Columbia often presents slightly higher overall admissions difficulty due to its Ivy League status and highly competitive global applicant pool. However, the UW MSDS program is also extremely selective and particularly attractive for students pursuing careers in the technology sector.

At this level, the decision is rarely about which school is “harder” to enter. Rather, the more important consideration is which program aligns best with the student’s academic interests and long-term career goals.

We congratulate our student on this excellent achievement and look forward to seeing their continued success.
