RISE Research: A Research Mentorship Program for High School Students

Research experience has become an increasingly important part of competitive college applications, particularly for students interested in STEM, social sciences, and the humanities.

According to its program materials, RISE Research is a research mentorship program for high school students. Participants are matched with PhD mentors from institutions including Harvard, Cambridge, and Columbia to develop an independent research project from concept to completion.

The program follows a structured 10-week curriculum covering:

• Research topic selection

• Research question development

• Study design and methodology

• Data collection and analysis

• Academic paper writing

• Revision and editing

• Journal submission preparation

• Presentation preparation

Each student is supported by three roles throughout the program:

• Research Mentor – Provides academic guidance throughout the research project.

• Writing Coach – Reviews and strengthens the structure and academic writing of the manuscript.

• Student Success Manager – Oversees project scheduling and milestone completion.

Program materials also state that students receive guidance for submitting their completed manuscripts to academic journals. Publication, however, is determined solely through each journal's independent editorial and peer-review process and is not guaranteed.
