🎯 General Admissions Requirements
HKU uses a highly selective admissions process. While your academic qualifications form the foundation of your application, personal statements, interviews, and supporting documents also play an important role.
To be a competitive candidate, you should meet the following minimum academic standards:
📚 Expected Lower Boundary for Admission
Applicants should fulfill one of the following two conditions:
Four AP subjects with a Grade 5, and
SAT superscore of 1560 or above, OR
Four AP subjects with Grade 5, and
Three additional AP subjects with Grade 5 (Note: SAT not required in this case)
❗ Excluded AP subjects: Latin, English Language and Composition, Chinese Language and Culture, French Language and Culture, German Language and Culture, Italian Language and Culture, Japanese Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture, AP Seminar, AP Research
📊 Subject-Specific Requirement
In addition to general academic performance, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in quantitative subjects:
Grade 5 in ONE of the following APs:
Calculus AB
Calculus BC
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Statistics
This reflects HKU’s emphasis on strong analytical and quantitative skills for students entering the BBA(IBGM) program.
🗣️ English Language Requirement
SAT Reading and Writing section score of 610 or above (in the same attempt)
📝 Additional Application Components
Interview: Shortlisted candidates applying with international qualifications will be contacted for an interview.
Personal Statement and References: These documents play a crucial role in assessing your motivation, personality, and fit for the program.
No additional tests or documents are required beyond the above unless specified later by HKU Business School.
🎓 Advanced Standing (Credit Transfer)
If you’re applying with qualifications such as the IB Diploma or GCE A-Levels, you may be eligible for up to 48 credits of advanced standing, broken down as:
24 credits of unspecified electives
24 credits covering Chinese, Core University English, and Common Core
However, BBA(IBGM) students are required to pursue a second major, and due to the 288-credit cap under the 4-year structure, some elective credits may be forfeited to fulfill major or minor requirements.
📌 Key Takeaways
BBA(IBGM) at HKU is extremely competitive, especially for international students with U.S.-based qualifications.
Aim for multiple AP scores of 5, a high SAT score, and solid quantitative background.
Be prepared to write a strong personal statement and possibly sit for an interview.
Credit transfers are available, but flexibility may be limited due to double-major requirements.
