Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore consistently ranks among the world’s top universities—offering world-class education in a highly global, English-speaking environment. If you're a U.S. high school student exploring international options, NTU could be a compelling alternative to traditional U.S. colleges. But how exactly can you apply with an American high school diploma? Here's what you need to know.

📌 Eligibility Overview

NTU accepts students with a U.S. high school diploma only if it meets specific accreditation criteria. Your diploma must be from a school accredited by one of the following agencies:

  • Cognia (formerly AdvancED)

  • Middle States Association (MSA)

  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)

  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

  • New York State Board of Regents

  • Other regional accrediting bodies such as NCASC, NACS, SASC (now Cognia), or NAIS

If your diploma is not from one of these bodies, you can still apply if Advanced Placement (AP) courses are part of your high school curriculum and you meet the AP requirements below.

✅ Minimum Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission:

  • You must be in your final year of high school or already graduated.

  • You need a strong GPA/academic record.

  • You must submit three or more AP Exam scores, each with a score of 4 or 5.

  • AP Calculus BC is required for Applied Computing in Finance, Engineering, and most Science programs.

  • AP Physics C is required for Physics-based programs.

Most admitted applicants submit more than three APs, so competitive students will often exceed the minimum.

🎓 Special Admissions Considerations

If you are a medalist (Gold, Silver, Bronze) in international Olympiads (Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, etc.), you may receive favorable admission into related NTU programs—even outside standard AP requirements.

NTU also offers Direct Admission to Olympiad medalists into majors aligned with their subject of achievement.

📄 Application Requirements

Here’s what you’ll need to prepare:

  • U.S. passport or ID

  • Your Grade 11 and Grade 12 transcripts (including at least up to Semester 1 of Grade 12 if you’re currently enrolled)

  • AP score reports from CollegeBoard

  • (If available) TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, or PTE Academic scores

  • University transcript (if you’ve taken any college-level courses)

🧾 Application must be completed in English and takes around 20+ minutes to fill out. Once started, it cannot be saved and resumed—so prepare all materials in advance.

🚫 NTU Entrance Exam

There is no entrance exam required for American high school students.

💬 Final Notes

  • Admission is highly competitive, especially for international applicants.

  • NTU makes offers only with actual academic results—preliminary or predicted grades will not be considered.

  • Meeting minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission.

🌍 Why NTU?

  • Ranked among the world’s best universities

  • Located in one of Asia’s most innovative and safest cities

  • English-medium instruction across all programs

  • Strong emphasis on research, technology, and industry collaboration

Ready to Apply?

NTU’s application portal for students with an American High School Diploma typically opens in October and closes in March. Ensure your documents and AP scores are ready well before the deadline.
