The Medical University of the Americas (MUA) offers the Gateway Medical Program for students who receive conditional acceptance to its Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.
The Gateway Medical Program is a 15-week preparatory curriculum designed to help students strengthen foundational medical sciences knowledge and develop the academic skills required for success in medical school.
Students may complete the program online or on the Nevis campus, with entry terms available in January, May, and September.
Program Highlights
15-week intensive curriculum
Online or on-campus study options
Three annual entry terms
Student-to-faculty ratio of approximately 3:1
Designed specifically for conditionally admitted students
Core Coursework

Clinical Anatomy
Medical Physiology
Cellular & Molecular Biology
Principles of Medicine
The curriculum introduces concepts related to human anatomy, physiological systems, cellular function, molecular biology, and the scientific foundations of medicine.
Purpose of the Program
The Gateway Medical Program is intended to help students transition into the academic environment of medical school. In addition to scientific coursework, participants are exposed to study strategies, time-management techniques, and learning approaches commonly used in medical education.
Small class sizes allow for individualized faculty interaction and academic support throughout the program.
Progression to the MD Program
Students who successfully complete the Gateway Medical Program may continue into the MD curriculum during the subsequent enrollment cycle.
Program participants may also be eligible for a Gateway Grant of $2,500 toward their first MD term. Scholarship consideration may take into account Gateway academic performance alongside previous undergraduate GPA and/or MCAT results.
Overview
The Gateway Medical Program serves as a preparatory pathway for conditionally admitted students at MUA. Through a focused 15-week curriculum covering key biomedical sciences and academic readiness skills, the program provides an introduction to the expectations of medical education before entry into the MD program.
